Suggested Fabrics for Skirts:
- Voile – Voile is a sheer woven, usually made of cotton. It is soft and lightweight, making it great for blouses, lined dresses and skirts. It is also great for lining cotton garments. Voile can also be made from silk, wool and rayon blends, although cotton is the most popular.
- Peachskin – is a blouse-weight fabric with a soft hand. It has almost a suede-like face, but still soft and does not have a nap like suede. It drapes nicely on the body and is perfect for tops, dresses and skirts.
- ITY Knit – stands for Interlock Twist Yarn. It is a method of putting a twist in the yarn resulting in a more natural elasticity and a soft feel inside & out. ITY knits are easy to sew with and quite popular for tops, dresses, skirts and flowy pants. They come in a wide array of prints and solids. It’s great for traveling too because it does not wrinkle.
- Challis – a lightweight, woven fabric that has a nice, flowy drape. It is usually made from rayon but can also be made with wool and other contents. You can use challis fabric in lightweight, loose-fitting tops, dresses, skirts and pants.
